Instructor Bios
Betty Ann Boeving lives and works in Menlo Park. She is a community advocate, an
avid athlete and writer, and a dedicated participant in Menlo Park Presbyterian's 5-year
Ethiopia Initiative. Betty Ann serves as the Administrative Director of the Martin Family Foundation and consults regularly with international and domestic justice-oriented nonprofits.
When basketball season begins, she will be in her tenth year as "the voice" of
Stanford women's basketball in Maples Pavilion. Betty Ann completed her B.A. at the
University of Oregon and her M.A. in International Policy Studies at Stanford,
specializing in International Conflict Resolution. She participates in various ventures---
from charity bike rides to socially responsible film projects---to raise awareness and funds for International Justice Mission and their work to fight sex trafficking and forced prostitution.
Kristin Geiser is the mother to three young children, a writer, and a teacher whose work
has focused on developing and sustaining equity-centered learning communities. Kristin
graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Theater, Film, and Television and a Ph.D. in
Educational Curriculum, Teaching Studies, Administration, and Policy. After serving as
the Director of Research for the Coalition of Equitable Schools in Oakland, Kristin has
worked as a graduate program director and teaching faculty at both Notre Dame de
Namur University, and Stanford University. Kristin’s passion for spiritual formation that
draws on ecumenical, contemplative, and social justice traditions has led her to serve on
the leadership teams of various ministries at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. Kristin
also enjoys reading, photography, dance, and cooking.
Beth Kawasaki is mother to four children and co-leader of the Justice Team,
partnerships, and projects for a five year Ethiopia Initiative at Menlo Park Presbyterian
Church in Menlo Park, California. She also serves as a Trustee of Seattle Pacific
University. Beth graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a B.A. degree in
Accounting in 1981 and a B.A. degree in Marketing in 1982. She recently completed a
Masters of Arts degree in Theology with a developing world women’s justice issues
emphasis, at Fuller Theological Seminary. Prior to this, Beth worked in sales and
marketing management positions at Procter and Gamble, Apple Computer, and Levi
Strauss. Beth enjoys walking the Stanford Dish, cooking on weekends, reading, taking in
films of all kinds, getting lost in foreign cities, and connecting people.
